A devastating argument
One reckless decision
An unforgivable sin
Successful Manhattan businessman Richard Brooks is living the dream, drunk with success and all its trappings until one reckless decision turns his dream life into a living nightmare.
Richard flees to Minneapolis where he repairs ancient boilers instead of solving corporate problems, and he's determined to live the solitary life he now deserves.
Executive Sheila Peterson has other plans for the handsome custodian. Richard appears to be the perfect match for the no-strings-attached romance she's after, but she soon discovers that he's hiding more than the designer clothes in his closet.
Richard can't deny the allure of a relationship with Sheila. The closer they get, though, the greater the risk that she will discover not only who he used to be but also the unforgivable sin he committed that reckless night.
My Review
Brenda Anderson is a talented writer, helping the reader feel emersed in the setting of the story with detailed descriptions.
While I enjoyed the author’s writing style, this particular story did not resonate with me. The first seven chapters turned me off with the focus on the two main characters trying to get each other into bed. I typically enjoy a prodigal son story, but the set up spent too much time on the characters’ undesirable traits for my taste.
As other reviewers have pointed out, the story gets better around chapter eight. If you are a fan of edgier (transformational) Christian romance and don’t mind a long set up with a fair amount of focus on the “before” life, then you’ll enjoy this read.
I do plan to try another of Brenda’s books in the future as I like her writing style and believe a different story might resonate more with me.
