A Contemporary Novel

Niki Turner has finally arrived. Her career is soaring—she has just been offered the company’s most sought after account, Helitronics. Life would be perfect, if she could stop her roommate from playing matchmaker.

Then Kyle Jacobs mysteriously re-enters her life. As painful memories resurface, his presence turns her life upside down and threatens to waylay her career. She must find a way to work with him—after all, he’s the helicopter flight consultant for the new flight control system she’s programming.

Kyle Jacobs struggles to start over in the civilian world following a tragic accident in Afghanistan. He must learn to move past the guilt. As he picks up the pieces of his life, he hopes to win Niki over, the girl he carried in his heart during the war.

Can Niki forget the past and see Kyle as the new man he has become? Or will her resentment keep her from finding what she has always been searching for?

Author Karen Baney creates an interesting mix of close friends keeping distant secrets in her Christian romance, Nickels, and it's enjoyable to find a female protagonist familiar with computers. The background is shaped by 9/11 and the foreground by software programming, but wars of the mind replace those of gun and a quiet undercurrent of faith grows strong, offering anguish or relief.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end! I am looking forward to reading more by Karen Baney, and I would recommend her books to anyone who wants a thought provoking read.

I thoroughly enjoyed Nickels, a Contemporary Christian Romance by Karen Baney. The connection to the characters took place quickly, as I found myself drawn in by the play between them. Ms. Baney has created a group of characters who compliment each other and make for a fun read. Though both Kyle and Nikki are dealing with tragedy and loss, they are fun to be around.
