On a recent trip to Flagstaff, Arizona, my hubby and I stopped at a museum–almost a pre-requisite for any trip. They had a nice display of some old western saddles.
This top left saddle is a Texas Trail Saddle, also called an Apple Horn Saddle. It dates back to the 1860′s. My characters, Will Colter and Ben Shepherd in A Dream Unfolding, might have used a saddle like this.
The top right saddle is a child’s saddle from the early 1900′s. The bottom left saddle is a Montana Saddle from 1910. The bottom right saddle is a California Stock Saddle circa 1905-10.
I hope you enjoyed looking at these different types of historical saddles. I always find it interesting to see the different styles, shapes, and sizes of saddles used in the western U.S.
